Bill Mitchell

Bill MitchellBill (William P.) Mitchell, emeritus Freed Foundation Professor in Anthropology, Monmouth University, is current ASA President (2016-2018) and served as VP and Program Chair (2014-2016).  He received his PhD from the University of Pittsburgh in 1972 and specializes in the Andes, focusing on the demographic, ecological and political economy of rural farmers, and the ways in which they maneuver through these constraints to create fundamental social changes.  His book, Voices from the Global Margin: Confronting Poverty and Inventing New Lives in the Andes (UT Press, 2006) won the LASA 2007 Flora Tristan Prize for the best book on Peru. https://www.monmouth.edu/directory/profiles/william-p-mitchell/
